I just graduated high school and exhibited my final animal (a steer named Pookie) at the Pickaway County Fair.

I’ve mostly worked while still going out with friends on my days off.

I completed my first year of college while in high school (as a College Credit Plus student) and I broke my school's home run record in softball.

I am spending my summer traveling to new places, spending time with friends and family and working.

I chose OHIO Chillicothe based on peer reviews, and on suggestion from another social worker who graduated from there.
What accomplishments are you most proud of from the past year?
I am proud that I have come through loss and trauma, a pandemic, and a period of disability to come out on the other side as a much healthier and more confident human being. To top that off by going back to school at the age of 43 to work on a career in art therapy is just the beginning of my journey to pay it all forward. I’m going to use my experiences to help others, and that is exciting to me.
How are you spending your summer?
I’ve been playing music, hiking, and generally relaxing mostly in preparation for my college journey.
What are you most looking forward to this fall?
Getting to take the first steps toward a life I only dreamed was possible not too long ago.
What’s your dream job?
Becoming a creative arts therapist (music and visual art). I want to use my lifelong experiences with aural and visual arts to help others cope and thrive in their own lives.

What accomplishments are you most proud of from the past year?
I graduated high school early and gave three beautiful guinea pigs a forever home.

Starting college so that I can get my degree

Why did you choose OHIO Chillicothe?
I chose OHIO Chillicothe because it is close to home. I have attended other colleges that were 100% online, and I liked that OHIO Chillicothe offers a mix of both online and in person classes. I am more of a "hands-on" type of person and I tend to do better when I am in a classroom setting, but also like the option of completing some of my classes online. I also chose OHIO Chillicothe because it is a well-known college around southern Ohio and my aunt (Bachelor in Psychology) and grandmother (Master's in Psychology) graduated from OHIO Chillicothe, so I wanted to follow in my family's footsteps.
What accomplishments are you most proud of from the past year?
I would say my biggest accomplishment that I am most proud of over the past year is that I have been stepping more out of my comfort zone. I have never been one to be adventurous or live on the edge, but over the past year, I have done things that I never thought I would do. I have allowed this past year to be a learning experience for me to really find myself and what my purpose is.
How are you spending your summer? It has been an exciting summer. In June, I went on a trip with my best friend down to Florida to see her grandparents. We went to the beach, which was only the second time I had seen the ocean and the first time seeing the Gulf of Mexico. I also am very active in church, working on bulletins and teaching Vacation Bible School this year. I'm also going to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee with my parents. My grandparents live in Nashville, so Tennessee has a special place in my heart, and I go to Tennessee quite often.
What are you most looking forward to this Fall? I am most looking forward to meeting new people and starting a journey that I have thought about for many years to earn my degree.
What is your dream job?
One of my dreams is to obtain my master's degree in Social Work and become either an LISW or LCSW and either work in a hospital as a counselor, or in a school as a school social worker. My other dream job would be to work as a crisis counselor, primarily for children in a children's hospital. I would say overall, my dream job is to be a counselor and help individuals struggling with mental health.
