
Mike Lafreniere was appointed as Ohio University Chillicothe's interim dean on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. He has been a valued member of the Ohio University community since 1994.
Previously serving as special assistant to the associate vice provost for regional higher education and partnerships, Lafreniere has made significant contributions to the University’s mission through his leadership, teaching and commitment to student success. He holds the title of associate professor and teaches mathematics, focusing on both in-person and online education.
Lafreniere earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering, both from the University of Florida. His professional background spans teaching, academic administration and consulting in both academic and industry settings. He is particularly known for his research in STEM education, including the “Collaboratory” approach to integrative STEM learning and his innovative work in online assessment technologies.
