Department of Athletic Training

Athletic training is a health-care profession specializing in the clinical diagnosis, immediate management, treatment and rehabilitation of acute, chronic or congenital musculoskeletal conditions.

Athletic trainers (ATs) are best known for providing health-care services to high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. ATs also work in performing arts, orthopedic clinics, industrial settings, the military, and hospitals.

Taught by a renowned faculty, the Athletic Training program at Ohio University has 50 years of experience in professional (entry-level) and post-professional education and has a nationwide alumni base.

Our Athletic Training Programs

  • Pre-Professional Athletic Training

To become an athletic trainer, students must complete a bachelor’s degree and apply to the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program. We recommend the B.S. in Exercise Physiology: Pre-Athletic Training Track.

We offer an Early Assurance Program for outstanding high school seniors.

Students in the B.S. in Exercise Physiology: Pre-Athletic Training Track can complete the bachelor’s and master’s degree in 5 years with our Accelerated Graduate Program (3+2).

  • Master of Science in Athletic Training Program

The MSAT Program is a two-year program. Upon graduation, students are awarded a Master of Science in Athletic Training. They are also eligible to become nationally certified and state licensed.

OHIO's MSAT Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. Additional details about this program's outcomes are available.
