Doctor of Athletic Training Admission Information

All graduate applications must be submitted electronically through the Graduate College. You will be prompted to first select the term for which you wish to apply. Students who complete the Dublin-based Athletic Training Residency (CTATRG) can apply those credits to the DAT.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be
    • a graduate of a CAATE-accredited master’s degree program
      -or-
    • a credentialed athletic trainer and possess a master’s degree in a related area
  • Have a master’s degree  with official transcripts showing a GPA of 3.0 from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university or equivalent
  • Submit a Resume or Curriculum Vitae that describes your previous education, work, teaching, and research experience, professional affiliations, community and volunteer experience, honors and awards, and publications.
  • Be certified as an athletic trainer by the Board of Certification, Inc. or equivalent
  • Be appropriately credentialed in the state in which they reside.
  • Possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number (U.S. applicants).

Each semester the student must demonstrate evidence of full-or part-time work experience as an athletic trainer (except for the summer if applicable). The scope of employment can include clinical practice, teaching, research, business, and/or administrative responsibilities. Gaps in employment must be justified in order to seek a waiver of this requirement (e.g., Family Medical Leave).

  • Application Deadlines

    Students can start the Doctor of Athletic Training program in fall, spring or summer.

    The deadline for summer applications is April 1.
