Online School Counseling Curriculum

Students in the School Counseling program must complete a minimum of 60 semester hours as follows:

Counselor Education Core Courses

Complete the following courses:

  • EDRE 5010 - Introduction to Educational Research Methods
  • EDCE 6200 - Foundations of Counseling: Clinical Mental Health, Rehabilitation, School Counseling
  • EDCE 6220 - Career Development: Research and Theory
  • EDCE 6310 - Appraisal I
  • EDCE 6450 - Counseling Over the Lifespan
  • EDCE 6500 - Group Counseling I
  • EDCE 6555 - Counseling Interviewing Techniques
  • EDCE 6620 - Diagnosis and Treatment Planning in Counseling
  • EDCE 6810 - Counseling Capstone
  • EDCE 6860 - Multicultural Counseling
  • EDCE 7555 - Theory & Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy
  • EDCE 7620 - Legal and Ethical Aspects of Counseling

Required School Counseling Courses

Complete the following courses:

  • EDCE 6240 - Professional School Counseling
  • EDCE 7246 - Counseling Children and Adolescents

Elective Courses

Complete 4 hours of approved electives.

Practicum and Internship

Complete 8 credit hours (600 clock hours) of internship under the supervision of a licensed school counselor as well as 3 credit hours (100 clock hours) of practicum. Each semester of internship is 4 credit hours, and students must complete two semesters of internship.
