Collaborative Pianist
Pianist Jieun Lee is in demand as a soloist, collaborator, advocate for contemporary music, teacher, and a trained organist. Ms. Lee gave her Carnegie Hall debut in 2017 as a top prizewinner in the American Protégé International Piano Competition and recently performed Ravel Piano Concerto for the Left Hand with the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra as a winner of the 2021 UGA Concerto Competition. In 2021, she also received Honorable Mention as a finalist in the prestigious Wideman International Competition. She was named state winner of the 2015 MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition in Missouri and received top prizes in numerous competitions in the USA and her native South Korea. As a winner of the 2015 Missouri State University Concerto Competition, she performed Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto with the MSU Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, Ms. Lee performed a recital in Steinway Hall in Feb. 2023.
As a collaborator, Ms. Lee was featured on the soundtrack for Netflix’s acclaimed documentary, The Social Dilemma. Highlights of the current season include a professional engagement as an ensemble pianist with the renowned Martha Graham Dance Company as part of UGA’s Performing Arts Center series; a world premiere performance of several works with the UGA Wind Ensemble at the 2023 CBDNA National Conference; an invitation to be a featured harpsichordist in a Bach Concerto led by former Juilliard String Quartet violinist Joseph Lin as part of the Chamber Music Athens festival; and a ground-breaking ensemble collaboration with Athens-area hip-hop artists through the Athens Hip Hop Harmonic initiative. As another highlight among her professional projects, she collaborated with Missouri State University’s Chorale and conductor Cameron F. LaBarr. Ms. Lee was a featured pianist on two commercial albums released by the Chorale, The Song We Sing (2022) and Easter, 1906 (2022). Most recently, she was invited to perform with the choir at the 2023 ACDA National Conference in Cincinnati. Ms. Lee also received a scholarship invitation to the Songfest festival at Vanderbilt where she performed in master classes for Profs. Martin Katz and Roger Vignoles.
Jieun Lee holds two master’s degrees, in piano performance and piano pedagogy, from CU Boulder and two undergraduate degrees, in piano performance and organ performance, from Missouri State University. Ms. Lee is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Georgia working with Dr. Liza Stepanova. At UGA, she was awarded a teaching assistantship in class piano and was additionally entrusted with teaching private lessons to piano minors. She was also a collaborative pianist for the Hodgson Singers, the UGA’s flagship choral ensemble under the direction of renowned conductor Daniel Bara. A versatile contributor to the UGA community, she performed with HHSOM's Contemporary Music Ensemble, taught in the Community Music School, and was a Vice President of Programs of TONIC, UGA’s MTNA collegiate chapter. Following those positions, she is currently a collaborative pianist at Ohio University.
