Maximillian McNutt

Visiting Assistant Professor of Trumpet

Originally from New Albany, Ohio, Dr. Maximillian McNutt is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Ohio University. His prior appointments include teaching at the University of Virginia and St Olaf College, and Principal Trumpet of the Charlottesville Symphony and Boulder Symphony. He received his Bachelor of Music from Indiana University’s Jacob’s School of Music, his Master of Music from Western Michigan University and his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Colorado.

As an orchestral musician Dr. McNutt has performed with the Colorado Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, Roanoke Symphony, Charlottesville Opera, Wintergreen Music Festival and the Mahlerfest Orchestra among others. As a soloist he has won the MTNA Young Artist Brass Division National Competition, the University of Colorado Honors Concert Competition, the Bayview Music Festival Concerto Competition, and been a finalist in the Roger Voisin Memorial Trumpet Competition, the International Trumpet Guild Orchestral Excerpts Competition, the National Trumpet Competition Graduate Division and the Delta Symphony Orchestra’s Concerto Competition. He is also a founding member of the Cantare Brass Quintet.

His primary teachers include Dr. Ryan Gardner, Justin Bartels, Scott Thornburg, Dr. Robert White, John Rommel and Nathan McGee.
