The Ceramics program emphasizes the realization of individual goals, the exploration of ideas and materials and a commitment to developing individuals who challenge contemporary standards while producing work of exceptional craftsmanship.
Our nationally ranked ceramics program offers students the chance to explore building, wheel throwing, kiln building, glaze calculations, alternative processes such as 3-D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, material histories, alchemy and aesthetics, design, sustainability and social practice, pedagogy and professional practices in contemporary Ceramics.

A 3 year program preparing graduates for successful careers as professional artists, directors of arts programs and residencies and university educators running and teaching in some of the top programs in the country.

In celebration of OHIO Ceramics faculty, students and alumni participating in this year’s National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) Conference, CURRENTS, in Cincinnati, OH, March 15-18. This year, our OHIO Ceramics community is on view at locations including Clay Street Press, Miami University Art Museum, and in the National Juried Student show. Conference Details.

All students have access to a well-equipped studio that includes:
- 350-400 square foot private studio for each graduate student
- Indoor kiln facility includes 9 electric and 2 large gas kilns
- Outdoor kiln facility includes 8 gas (2 salt, 2 soda), 1 electric, and 5 wood kilns
- More than 24 wheels, 2 slab rollers
- Fully stocked and ventilated glaze & clay mixing areas with 3 day mixers and de-airing pug mill
- 2 slip mixers, ball mill, spray booth, and sandblaster
- Ceramic tool room and well-equipped wood shop
- CREATE_space lab: interdisciplinary computer and new media resource center
- Obket350 Connex Multi-Material 3-D Printer & Torchmate 2: CNC Router and Plasma Cutter
