My name is Brynna Pope and I am from Dublin, Ohio. I will be graduating with a major in Interior Architecture and minors in studio art and business administration. What got me interested in design was the everchanging possibilities that it can bring. It seems that the design world is forever changing and getting to be a part of that world in creating new spaces for communities inspires me to continue my work. My plan after graduation is not set in stone yet, but I am hoping to find a firm that specializes in commercial design in the Columbus area so I can stay close to home.

My thesis project is about creating a space for ex-convicts to re-enter society in a healthier way. Gaining independence after not having any for so long can have lasting effects. Creating a space that can help them get back on their feet before going out into the world again can help with the rate of recidivism, the tendency of a convicted criminal to re-offend, and make them better-functioning adults in society. This is an important topic to explore because there are many halfway home programs in the United States, but a lot of them are underfunded and don’t have the proper resources to help ex-convicts understand how to return normally to society. By giving more attention to the issue, hopefully, it will educate more people and encourage them to explore this topic in their own ways.
