About Graduate Student Senate (GSS)
The Graduate Student Senate (GSS) serves and represents graduate students at Ohio University. We have a history of being a space for graduate and professional students to voice their concerns, as well as a body with the resources and connections to try to do something about them. Members of GSS have the opportunity to be a part of one of the many university standing committees, such as Graduate Council, Budget Planning Council, among others.
Graduate Student Senate is one of Ohio University's four shared-governance Senates. The other three are:
GSS represents all Ohio University graduate and professional students and their interests. We examine issues that affect the graduate student community and submit reports and recommendations to The Office of the President, Budget Planning Council, Graduate Council, Standing University Committees, and to several of the college deans.
Graduate Student Senate is comprised of:
- Three Executive Officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer
- One Senator from each college
- One Representative from each department with a graduate program
- Commissioners who champion a variety of special interests (for example, Graduate Student Life- Housing, Women's Affairs)
- Various non-voting members involved in committees and other projects.
