ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Ohio University's leadership has prioritized efforts to increase our participation and enhance our standing in various forms of university rankings, including those that receive international attention, and as a result, we are participating this year in the QS World Rankings Survey.

For the Academic Reputation Survey, we will need the names and contact information for individuals who are familiar with Ohio University and its programs, and who would be willing to participate in an online survey about our academic reputation. Only individuals associated with a college or university are eligible to answer this survey. Please work with college to help us identify appropriate individuals.  To make this work, 1) we need you and your colleagues to nominate only academics, and preferably individuals who know OHIO well through their previous experience; 2) we need their institutional email address; and 3) we should make an effort to prioritize academics at international institutions, since their scores are weighted at 85%, versus 15% for US-based academics.

  • Why is this important?   Many of us have experienced circumstances in which our efforts to recruit international students have been stymied by our lack of standing in academic rankings.  Some international agencies also base funding decisions on university rankings. The problem is not always just rankings that are too low - if we’re not even present in rankings used for such decisions, we’re not in the running.  Hence our interest in participating this year in the QS rankings, a reference tool that is receiving increasing use internationally.
  • Role of individual survey respondents.  An important part of the ranking process is an Academic Reputation survey that will be distributed by QS. We are asked to submit a list of names for individuals who can be contacted for this purpose. The survey responses of these individuals comprise a significant portion of our QS score and are critical to the University’s ranking.
  • Who to nominate.  Examples of appropriate individuals would include colleagues with whom you collaborate on research activities, former students or postdocs/visiting assistant professors, persons who assist with internships and education abroad programs, have other first-hand experience with Ohio University, or you believe would otherwise be appropriate for the survey.

Please submit this form as many times as needed with additional contacts. Any questions can be directed to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness & Analytics at iea@ohio.edu

Thank you so much for participating!
