International Collections

The Center for International Collections (CIC), located on the first floor of Alden Library, houses and/or has curatorial responsibility for a number of special area studies collections, including:

• Africana Collection
• Chubu Collection
• Latin American Collection
• Southeast Asia Collection
• Overseas Chinese Collection

The CIC also bears administrative responsibility for the:

• Malaysian Resource Center
• You-Bao Shao Overseas Chinese Documentation and Research Center

The CIC directly supports the research and curriculum of Ohio University’s Center for International Studies and an ever-expanding circle of students and faculty at Ohio University and beyond. The CIC provides specialized reference services for Africa, East Asia, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.

Established in the summer of 1999, the Center for International Collections was made possible through the generous support of President Emeritus Dr. Vernon R. Alden and Marion Parson Alden, both whom recognized the value of and championed International Studies with an unparalleled vigor throughout their dynamic and fruitful tenure at Ohio University. The CIC is named after Dean Emeritus of Ohio University Libraries, Dr. Hwa-Wei Lee, who was a key contributor to the development of Ohio University’s area studies collections during his memorable twenty-one year tenure as Dean (1978-1999). In recognition of his countless contributions to and enduring legacy at Ohio University, Dr. Hwa-Wei Lee received an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy from Ohio University in June 2012.
