Two more Course Adaptation Workshops available this fall

Two more Course Adaptation Workshops will be offered to faculty this fall. In support of the OHIO Honors Program, these workshops are designed to help faculty build OHIO Honors components into courses they are already teaching.

Faculty members who submit an honors course adaptation proposal are eligible to receive $400 in compensation.

During the sessions, OHIO Honors Program Director Margaux Cowden will introduce attendees to the program. Instructional designers from the Office of Instructional Innovation (OII) will then guide faculty through the process of developing a proposal for an enhanced course to be considered for inclusion in the OHIO Honors curriculum.

These workshops will help support the program’s commitment to high-impact curricular and co-curricular learning experiences, as well as foster interdisciplinarity and innovation.

“So far, faculty members have designed more than 35 honors course adaptations,” said Cowden. “The unique opportunities offered through the adaptations helped to draw 370 new OHIO Honors students to the University this fall. We look forward to collaborating with faculty members to build on this success and expand honors offerings to a broader range of departments.”

This year, faculty also will have access to a course adaptation workbook designed by Kyle Rosenberger, instructional designer in the Office of Instructional Innovation. The workbook includes all the fundamental elements of the course adaptation workshop but offers more flexibility for those who cannot make it to a workshop.

The OHIO Honors Program offers an alternative to the Honors Tutorial College’s tutorial model for highly engaged students across disciplines who want to focus on experiential learning and application. The program is designed to complement undergraduate study in any non-tutorial degree program.

To view workshop times and register for one of the sessions, visit the workshop web page. The deadline to RSVP for a workshop is 24 hours before it is scheduled to begin.

The Office of Instructional Innovation (OII) serves as a catalyst to spark bold experimentation and sustainable discovery of innovative instructional models that fulfill the University’s promise of a transformative educational experience. OII provides a variety of services to faculty, staff, and students in support of academic units and online programs, as well as to advance initiatives to further the institution’s mission.
