Ohio University Research Committee announces fall 2020 funding recipients

The Ohio University Research Committee has selected five proposals for funding during its fall 2020 cycle. In total, the committee awarded $39,438.

The program, which is funded by the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity, provides seed money for new faculty and administrative staff members or established applicants seeking to start a new direction in their research. Applicants may request up to $8,000 per proposal.

The committee received a total of seven proposals requesting $55,416 in funding.

The following proposals were selected:
 

1. Ronan Carroll, Biological Sciences

The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend? Investigating the Inhibition of Staphylococcus Aureus Toxin Activity by Pseudomonas Aeruginosa

Amount Funded:  $7,500
 

2. Donald Miles, Biological Sciences

“Metabolic Meltdown” in Ectotherms as a Consequence of Climate Change: Using Molecular Markers to Predict Population Collapse 

Amount Funded:  $8,000
 

3. Harvey Ballard, Environmental and Plant Biology

Integrating Flow Cytometry and Genotyping-by-Sequencing with Traditional Methods for Species Discovery and Species/Hybrid Delimitation in Great Lakes Bog Clubmosses

Amount Funded:  $8,000


4. John Schenk, Environmental and Plant Biology

Assessing Species Diversity and Conservation of One of the Most Endangered Families of Plants

Amount Funded:  $7,959
 

5. John Staser, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

Novel Materials for Zn-Air Batteries

Amount Funded:  $7,979
