Five faculty members awarded nearly $65,000 for research and creative endeavors

Five Ohio University faculty members were awarded close to $65,000 in funding for the 2023-24 Ohio University Research Committee (OURC)/Baker Fund fall cycle.

The OURC/Baker Fund supports research, scholarship and creative activity at Ohio University. Competitive awards of up to $15,000 provide seed money for faculty and staff to pursue research and creative activity projects, from those in the initial stages to projects that are nearing completion. The committee selected five recipients for the 2023-24 fall cycle, totaling $64,904 in funding. Awardees are listed below:

1. Katherine Cimatu, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Investigating the Photophysical and Photochemical Properties of Rh(III)-BODIPY Complexes in Application to Cancer Photodynamic Therapy 
   Amount funded: $14,633
2. Mitchell Day, Biological Sciences, Effects of Hearing Loss on Behavioral Sound Localization 
   Amount funded: $14,918
3. Jennie Klein, Art + Design, Blessed Be: Queer Feminist Art, Ecofeminism and the Goddess 
   Amount funded: $5,491
4. Rachel Marchan-Rivadeneira, EBI/Biological Sciences, Chemical Profiling of Plant-Derived Endophytic Bacteria from the Ecuadorian Andean Highlands with Potential Antibacterial Properties 
   Amount funded: $14,928
5. Nathan Weyand, Biological Sciences, Modeling Asymptomatic Neisseria Infections of Extragenital Sites using Surrogate Model Organism Neisseria Musculi 
   Amount funded: $14,934

Funding for the program is provided by the Research Division and an endowment from 1926 College of Arts and Sciences graduate Edwin L. Kennedy and his wife, Ruth, a 1930 graduate of the College of Education.
