Update on search for OHIO’s next vice president for research and creative activity

Ohio University is moving forward in the search for its next vice president for research and creative activity, and plans to host candidate open forums in February and March, with dates to be announced soon.

The national search began during the fall semester and the goal is to name our next vice president for research and creative activity before the end of the academic year.

The search committee is being led by co-chairs:

  • Darlene Berryman, Associate Dean, Research and Innovation; Professor, Biomedical Sciences, Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Patrick Fox, Dean, Russ College of Engineering and Technology

When the details for the open forums are finalized, they will be announced to the University community. All members of the community are invited to attend the open forums in person or virtually.

David Koonce is currently serving as interim vice president for research and creative activity, in addition to his role as dean of the Graduate College. Joe Shields previously served as vice president for research and creative activity and dean of the Graduate College before leaving the University in 2022.

With OHIO’s growing research portfolio and new status as an R1 Research Institution, and consistent with industry best practice, the vice president of research and creative activity role is now a singular position, separate from the Graduate College dean position.
