OHIO Writing Challenge Community of Practice

OHIO Writing Challenge (OWC) Community of Practice is an opportunity for faculty to participate in an extension of the 14-Day Writing Challenge offered by the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD). Participants will register for the fall semester challenge (tentatively scheduled mid-October) and will be invited to meet before/after the challenge to discuss academic writing challenges and best practices.

Structure

The OHIO Writing Challenge is an extension of the NCFDD 14-day Writing Challenge, which is a free opportunity for OHIO faculty to experiment with daily writing, online community, and supportive accountability on our WriteNow platform. The NCFDD 14-day Writing Challenge requires participants to:

  1. Commit to writing for at least 30 minutes a day for two weeks.
  1. At the beginning of your writing time, login to NCFDD’s online community, start the timer, complete your writing, and post your progress at the end.
  1. Take five (5) minutes to support other writers in your group by commenting on their progress.

Note: NCFDD uses the term “writing” to refer to any scholarly activity ranging from the spark of a new idea to polishing a near-complete project (article, grant proposal, exhibit, book chapter, etc.).

NCFDD membership is free to OHIO faculty, staff, and students through OHIO’s institutional membership (membership activation is required).

To supplement NCFDD’s 14-day Writing Challenge, OHIO will be hosting a pre-challenge meeting to discuss challenges faced when trying to commit time to academic writing, a mid-challenge virtual check-in, and a post-challenge reflection session to discuss experiences and next steps.

Eligibility

Any full-time OHIO faculty who registers for the fall 2024 or spring 2025 NCFDD 14-Day Writing Challenge are welcome to join the OHIO Writing Challenge (OWC) Community of Practice.
