Multi-campus 5G Readiness Grant Award
In February 2024, the Ohio Department of Higher Education awarded the McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies a Super RAPIDS grant for 5G wireless equipment for $435,000. The funds will be used to create new laboratory experiences for the workforce development efforts coordinated by the Lt. Governor's Office for Workforce Transformation and OU's Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service. The funding will allow the school to greatly expand its capabilities to educate, train and carry out research with students interested in 5G and broadband systems. The funds will also be used for new hands-on experiences for the ITS curriculum. As part of this grant, the McClure will be teaching three cohorts of the industry approved 5G Readiness certificate in collaboration with the Wireless Industry Association. This training will be delivered in three cohorts in the summer, fall and spring semesters.
