
Student Organizations and Publications
Many of our students get involved with extracurricular activities early on in their academic careers and participate in organizations that help them network, meet other students in their major and build leadership skills. Below are some of the key organizations and opportunities that are key to majors in the School of Visual Communication.

NPPAOU
This is the National Photographers Press Association (opens in a new window) Ohio University chapter. This organization advocates for visual journalists in print, broadcast and digital. Instagram: (opens in a new window) @nppaou

OUMS
The Ohio University Multimedia Society (opens in a new window) is comprised of all students who are interested in exploring design across a variety of platforms. At least once a semester, student members take a trip to larger-market cities and tour companies that are successful within the visual communication industry. SPI
The Society for Photographic Illustrators (opens in a new window) brings together students who are interested in commercial photography. SPI students go on field trips to studios and network at seminars.

Backdrop Magazine

VARIANT Magazine

Thread Magazine
Thread Magazine’s (opens in a new window) mission is to “encourage inclusivity and confident self-expression through diverse perspectives.” This publication is Ohio University’s largest fashion magazine. The Post
The Post (opens in a new window) is a student-run editorially independent newspaper. The Post, started in 1912 is the oldest existing publication at Ohio University. It publishes campus and community content online daily and weekly in print. Open to students interested in writing, editing, photography, design, multimedia and more.
