Anchored Spotlights

President, Ohio University
Dr. Lori Gonzalez

23rd President of Ohio University

[Excerpt from President's Special Message] I have dedicated my career to public higher education, serving at institutions in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina and growing in my career from faculty member to Associate Dean to Dean to Provost. While that trajectory has helped me prepare for this role, I want you to know that this opportunity represents far more to me than a culminating professional position. I am a second-generation college student, raised in a small Appalachian town by parents who believed deeply in the power of education to shape our lives and in the responsibility we had to give back to our neighbors and to society as a whole. My whole life I have understood my personal mission and purpose to be service in and through education, and I consider it an incredible gift to have the opportunity to live that purpose as President of Ohio University.

With that in mind, my commitment to you is to share in and champion, always, OHIO’s commitment to our students and their success; to work hard and collaborate eagerly to uplift our faculty and staff so that they might do their best work; to see, hear and respond to the needs of our state with a particular focus on the Appalachian region where many of our campuses are located; and to remain focused on the difference we can and will make together as we pursue discovery and provide access to experiential education that changes lives and improves the communities we serve.

Frequently Asked Questions

What content management system does Ohio University use?

Ohio University adopted Drupal in 2019.

Drupal is a free, open-source web content management framework web content management system that is easy to use and scalable. Drupal provides a back-end framework for at least 2.3% of all websites worldwide – ranging from personal blogs to corporate, political, and government sites.

After conducting a review of several systems, the Web Services team decided to move forward with Drupal hosted on the Acquia Cloud Platform based on the following criteria:

  • Security
  • Architecture
  • Maintenance
  • Ability for staff to manage and update content
  • Ease of migration
  • Experience with Higher Education Institution

Drupal provides the following benefits to the University:

  • Standardized web presence on a common tool
  • Centrally managed and supported websites
  • Cost savings on licensing and hardware for departments and colleges
  • Non-IT and non-UCM staff can manage content
  • Increased functionality and easier reuse of content across our websites
What if I still have web content that resides outside of Drupal?

If your website or content resides on a content management system other than Drupal, please submit a request form to initiate an evaluation with UCM on how best to migrate your site and/or content.

How can I find out who manages content on a certain site within the Ohio University website?

Due to the size of Ohio University's website and the importance of keeping it up to date, there are hundreds web contributors campus-wide in charge of managing online content for their college or department.

UCM maintains a web manager directory to locate primary contributors for each area.

How do I get access to edit Ohio University websites?
  1. You must obtain approval from the site manager of the OHIO subsite that you will be accessing.
