Ohio START Parent Interview Findings

The Ohio START Parent Interview Findings report shares insights from interviews with 60 parents who graduated from Ohio START (Sobriety Treatment and Reducing Trauma), an alternative model for serving parents and families involved with Child Protective Services (CPS) due to substance user. 

Parents reported improved parenting practices, stronger emotional bonds with their children, and life-saving impacts from the START model. Family Peer Mentors played a central role, offering consistent practical and emotional support. Participants also highlighted START’s supportive, family-centered approach, contrasting it with previous experiences and perceptions of traditional CPS. The report underscores Ohio START’s success in fostering recovery, strengthening families, and promoting long-term stability​.
