Economics Major B.S.

The B.S. in Economics helps students explore how economics connects to everyday life using real data and quantitative tools. Students build skills in math, statistics and data analysis while focusing on understanding real-world issues and how to think about them clearly and logically.

Whether students are interested in graduate school or a career that involves research and analysis, this program provides a strong foundation in using data and economic reasoning to make sense of the world. Students can choose coursework based on their own interests in areas such as labor, international, environmental, or financial economics.

 

Careers with an Economics Degree

The Bachelor of Science in Economics focuses on quantitative methods and data analysis that are highly valued in the job market and serve as an excellent foundation for graduate school in Economics. Economists work in a variety of jobs in the private sector, the education sector, the non-profit sector and government agencies.

Entry-level positions for economists with a bachelor’s degree include market analysts, consultants, research assistants, data analysts, investment bankers, forecasters, journalists, as well as managers, analysts and leaders in business, banking, government, and non-profit and international organizations.

The Bachelor of Science prepares students for continued education in economics, mathematics, law school, journalism, international affairs, and public policy.

Admission Requirements

This program has no requirements beyond University freshman/first-year admission and transfer requirements, but math placement at level 2 or higher is strongly recommended.
