School of Theater

Building a bridge to the business on the values and craft of the artist. The Ohio University School of Theater offers a variety of degree tracks in the field of theater arts. Each program has its own variation of requirements, documents, and information that is important to your application process. Find all the resources you might need below. Undergraduate Requirements

There are two options for undergraduate application and acceptance. Applicants to apply directly to the B.F.A. degree program of their choice, or can choose to apply to the General Theater B.A. degree program. 

1) To apply directly to the B.F.A. program of your choice:

  • Performance - Acting (Major Code BF5048)
  • Performance - Musical Theater (Major Code BF5049)
  • Production Design and Technology (Major Code BF5162)
  • Stage Management (Major Code BF5168)
  • Playwriting (Major Code BF5158)

Direct application requires a two-part process:

  1. Complete a successful audition or interview for you degree program of choice. Second, complete an application to be admitted to OHIO University.
  2. To apply as B.A. (Major Code BA5194) General Theater candidate, which allows broader study and a greater possibility of double majoring, complete an application to be admitted to OHIO University. Toward the end of the first year, B.A. students may choose to continue the broader B.A. program or may apply for acceptance into the B.F.A. programs. 

Financial Aid and Scholarships

High school seniors and any level of undergraduate and graduate students are eligible of talent-based awards. Your initial admissions application serves as your application for most University scholarships. The School of Theater has a number of Fine Arts Talent Awards that may be given to incoming students based on talent. We invite high school seniors to visit Ohio University's School of Theater for Scholarship Day each spring. You will have a chance to meet many members of our faculty, tour our theaters and shops, and audition or interview for scholarship awards. We look forward to meeting you!
