The MAcc program at OHIO has integrated a data analytics focus throughout the curriculum, along with in-depth instruction on advanced accounting topics. You'll also gain the soft skills employers value, such as communication, problem-solving and teamwork. In courses that utilize actual cases, you'll engage more deeply with the material while building problem-solving skills through online coursework, live sessions, special events and group projects. These authentic learning experiences ensure that you graduate prepared for more than the CPA exam – you'll complete OHIO’s MAcc program ready for your career.

We've built pathways for those students without an accounting bachelor's degree to be as efficient as possible. Students only take 4-6 pre-requisite courses to gain the required foundational accounting skills they need to be successful in the MAcc program.

New students enrolling in the online MAcc who hold a bachelor’s in a field other than accounting, can now take the pre-requisite accounting bridge courses (MBA 6315, ACCT 5010, ACCT 5020, and ACCT 5030) at a 75% lower tuition rate*, a savings of over $8,500 for all four courses.

  • Business: Designed for students with a bachelor's degree in a non-accounting, business major.

To apply to OHIO's online MAcc program, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Official transcripts for all previously attended undergraduate and graduate institutions
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A personal statement (2 - 4 pages) discussing your career goals, how the master’s degree will help you achieve those goals, areas or competencies that you expect the program will help you strengthen and what you plan to contribute to the learning community
  • Current resume detailing professional experience
  • $50 application fee

An Affordable Online Accounting Master's Degree

    The conference is offered twice per year in April and August. The cost of the conference, lodging and most meals is covered by the program. Students pay their travel expenses to and from Athens. All online MAcc students are required to attend this event at least once, but many choose to attend more than once.

Director, School of Accountancy; O'Bleness Professor of Accountancy

Dr. David M. Stott joined the Ohio University faculty in the summer of 2016 and serves as the director of the School of Accountancy and the O’Bleness Professor of Accountancy. He previously served as the director of graduate programs in accounting and chair of the Department of Accounting and MIS at Bowling Green State University, where he held the Maurer Family Distinguished Professorship in Accounting.

Associate Professor, School of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy and Analytics Program Director

Dr. Jennifer Sustersic Stevens is an award-winning educator, published author and experienced CPA. With a professional background in forensic accounting, she applies her personal experience to teaching courses in Accounting Theory and Application, Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination for Ohio University's Master of Accountancy and Analytics degree.
 

She is currently a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of CPAs. Additionally, she also has published and forthcoming work in the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Accounting Horizons, Research in Accounting Regulation and more.

How fast can I complete the MAcc program?

You can complete the Full-Time Master of Accountancy and Analytics program in just one year. The online part-time program takes five to eight semesters to complete. To see the curriculum, view our courses page.

Is the Master of Accountancy and Analytics program accredited?

Ohio University’s College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. This esteemed credential is granted to less than 5% of business schools in the nation. In addition, OHIO's College of Business holds AACSB Supplemental Accounting Accreditation, which means our program meets additional standards set by the AACSB Accounting Accreditation Council.

Do the OHIO Master of Accountancy and Analytics programs accept transfer credits?

Do I need to have a bachelor's degree in accounting?

No, the MAcc includes curriculum pathways for students with an accounting bachelor's degree, a business bachelor's degree or a bachelor's degree in another field. Your curriculum will include the necessary coursework to prepare you to be successful in this industry and be eligible to sit for the CPA exam.

Does the online MAcc program have a residency component?

Yes. Through OHIO's unique Leadership Development Conference, you'll engage with your peers in the accounting program in person. During this weekend (Friday and Saturday) in Athens, Ohio, you will learn from world-class speakers, connect with classmates in online business programs at OHIO and meet the faculty you've learned from. All Online MAcc students are required to attend this event at least once.

How will the online MAcc program prepare me for the CPA exam?

CPA exam preparation is woven throughout the online MAcc curriculum, ensuring that you'll graduate ready to pursue licensure and pursue leadership positions in accounting, management, and finance. Passage of the Uniform CPA Exam is a requirement for CPA licensure or certification in all states.
