Laura Ndoigo
Hometown: Nakuru, Kenya
Expected Graduation: Spring 2022
Laura was born and raised in Nakuru city in Kenya, before moving to the US for college. She grew to love science as she went through school and eventually decided to study mechanical engineering from Ohio University. She is currently a fourth-year student and her goal is to use her knowledge and skills as a mechanical engineer in the medical device industry.
In the summer of 2022, Laura interned at Smiths Medical, a company that develops medical devices. Their area of specialty involves infusion and vascular access. She was involved in design verification of an infusion device.
Laura is part of OHIO’s Cutler Scholar’s Program as a Russ Legacy Cutler Scholar, an award that has provided her with a good education and great opportunities for personal and professional growth. In addition to this, she has been involved in matters of international students on campus as a commissioner in student senate, a global ambassador, and a global network fellow. Lastly, she is an undergraduate researcher at the Institute of Sustainable Energy and Environment where she continues to explore her curiosity in science through the investigation of fuel cells.
African literature is one thing Laura enjoys diving into in during her free time. Her favorite book is “Americanah” by Chimamanda Adichie Ngozi. She also enjoys playing tennis and finding new recipes.
