Tyra Huxley
Tyra Huxley is pursuing both an energy engineering degree and a Spanish degree from OHIO. She hopes to use this background in the arts and engineering disciplines to address critical issues and create sustainable solutions.
From Springfield, Ohio, she learned early about her desire to serve others. She is passionate about environmental and social justice. Tyra loves Ohio University because of its beautiful green campus and the positive, progressive energy that Athens embodies. Her favorite part of Athens is Strouds Run State Park.
Tyra is mindful of her extracurricular activities. Her freshman year she worked with the mechanical engineering department as a member of the microalgae research team. In the spring of her sophomore year, she studied abroad in Valencia, Spain. She served as president of the Society of Women Engineers her junior year. Tyra worked for the university’s career center her third and fourth years where she offered students help with resumes and interviewing techniques. Last fall, Tyra had an internship in Cleveland working with RoviSys Building Technologies. Currently, she is doing research with the Voinovich School of Leadership working on a project funded by the EPA working with a local business to turn their waste into biogas via anaerobic digestion.
