Dance — History and Theory Minor

The Dance - History and Theory minor explores dance as a cultural, artistic, and historical form. This program emphasizes the global and historical study of dance, examining its role in society, aesthetics, and movement traditions. The minor is an excellent complement to fields such as literature, history, journalism, communication, playwriting, museum studies, and global studies.

Admission Requirements

Freshman/First-Year Admission

There are no requirements beyond general university admission. No audition is required.

Change of Program Policy

To declare the minor, students must complete the College of Fine Arts Application for Update of Academic Program form online.

Curriculum

The Dance - History and Theory minor requires a minimum of 18 credit hours, combining studio dance technique, coursework in dance history and theory, and elective options. Students explore global dance cultures, movement analysis, and the historical and cultural significance of dance across various traditions.

Career Opportunities
