First Passport Grant

Introduction 

The First Passport Grant aims to break down one of the barriers to meaningful international travel by funding passports for Bobcats. 

Applying for and receiving your first passport opens up a world of possibilities, including study abroad, internships abroad, and volunteer experiences abroad. If you’re unsure about what a passport is and why you might need one, check out this short video from HowStuffWorks.  

Students that are selected will also receive support and advising on the passport application process. If you are a student that does not fit the eligibility criteria outlined below, OGO can still provide support and advising on the passport application process. 

Student Eligibility 

  1. Must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate student at Ohio University 

  2. Must be applying for a first adult passport (not renewing a previous passport) 

    • Applicants who have recently applied for a passport (since August 1, 2024) will be eligible for the award and be required to show a copy of their receipt in order to receive the award.

    • If you are planning to participate in a Winter Break 24/25, Spring Semester 2025, or Spring Break 2025 program - Do not wait to hear if you've received the passport grant before submitting your passport application! Apply now and keep the receipt. If you receive the passport grant, you will be reimbursed up to the $165 this award covers. 

  3. Must qualify for financial aid according to the guidelines determined by the Ohio University Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. All applicants must have a FAFSA on file at the time of application to be considered for an award.

Preference will be given to:

  • First- or second-year undergraduate students
  • Students who receive the Federal Pell Grant

Award Amount 

The award amount will cover the costs for (1) the application fee of a passport book and (2) the execution/acceptance fee.

This award will not cover other fees, which may include passport photos, expedited delivery fees, or travel expenses to submit application materials at the nearest passport application processing center.
