Come Check Out the Libraries’ Annual Homecoming Display
Ohio University’s most beloved event of the year will be arriving quicker than before. The Libraries’ will be commemorating Homecoming with its annual archival display available for viewing from Monday, Sept. 23 at 8 a.m. to Saturday, Sept. 28 at 5 p.m.
Original archival materials that depict the life, history and culture at OHIO over the past 100+ years will be showcased. Scrapbooks, student newspapers and publications, yearbooks and photographs are only just a few of the many nostalgic, historic artifacts and other memorabilia that will be available for everyone to see on Alden Library’s fourth floor.
Bill Kimok, University archivist and records manager, as well as the curator of the display, mentioned in an email that the display is ever changing so there’s always something new to check out.
“I am always adding new items every year,” Kimok wrote. “Because there is so much piled up on the tables, returning alumni visitors always find new things that they had not seen the last time they visited. Many of the students are first timers who often think all of it is new.”
Kimok mentioned that Homecoming and the display is a way for those in the OHIO community to feel a sense of connection to their school.
“There is always a large new crop of students experiencing OHIO Homecoming for the first time, and I hope that presenting these items to them will give them a sense of what life was like on campus in years past,” Kimok wrote. “There will also be new alumni, their families and people who have seen the display other years but usually come back to see more of it since there is so much stuff available.”
The Libraries will also be hosting one of its most popular activities with its button making station. Found outside of the fourth floor on Alden’s veranda and near Wolfe Garden, visitors and students will be able to create their own unique “pins” from images they get to select from upcycled OHIO materials such as yearbooks.
