Ohio University Librarian Joins State Library of Ohio Five-member Board
The State Board of Education of Ohio recently appointed Janet Carleton to the State Library Board. Carleton, who has 24 years of library experience and extensive knowledge of librarianship in special collections and digitization, is currently the digital initiatives coordinator for Ohio University Libraries responsible for digitization, digital preservation, and social media promotion of the Libraries’ unique resources. Her career at University Libraries began in 1998 at the Mahn Center for Archives & Special Collections as a Scripps Project Reformatting Archivist.
An active member of preservation, archives and digitization associations for state, regional and national library associations, Carleton serves on multiple boards, task forces, commissions and users’ groups. Her professional leadership includes chairing and/or co-chairing committees for the Society of American Archivists, the Midwest Archives Conference, the Society of Ohio Archivists, the Academic Library Association of Ohio, and the Ohio Historical Records Advisory board.
In addition to her involvement in professional organizations, Carleton has demonstrated her expert knowledge and commitment to the access of resources, digitization and preservation of higher education libraries through published scholarly articles, and numerous state and national conference and workshop presentations.
“I am honored to join the State Library of Ohio Board,” said Carleton. “I look forward to working with my colleagues at the State Library and around the state to continue to enhance Ohio libraries as they work to meet the needs of their communities. As a third-generation librarian/archivist I am eager to pitch in!”
