Jane Elizabeth
Jane Elizabeth, a media consultant and adjunct journalism professor, is a longtime journalist who has worked in newsrooms including The Washington Post, The Pittsburgh-Post Gazette and The Virginian-Pilot. Most recently, she was the managing editor of The (Raleigh, N.C.) News & Observer and The (Durham, N.C.) Herald-Sun. She also served as director of accountability journalism at The American Press Institute.
She is a member of several boards and organizations, including The Freedom Forum's Power Shift Project, Radford University's College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences, Journalism and Women’s Symposium, and a former chair of Associated Dailies for the North Carolina Press Association.
She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the 2021 Public Service Award from the North Carolina Press Association, Education Writers Association, National Association of Black Journalists, Society of Professional Journalists and the Virginia Bar Association.
She was named to MediaShift’s Top 20 Innovators and to Editor & Publisher’s “25 over 50” media leaders list in 2022.
She holds an undergraduate degree in journalism and English from Radford University, a master’s degree in mass communication from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is a former Knight-Nieman visiting fellow at Harvard University.
