Community Health Worker Pilot Initiative

What Is a Community Health Worker?

Community health workers (CHWs) promote wellness by helping people adopt healthy behaviors. They are the bridge between you and the resources available in your community, and they can help you navigate, manage and plan activities that lead to better health outcomes for you.

Ohio University’s Campus Community Health Worker pilot initiative is a collaboration between Well-Being & Recreation and the College of Health Sciences & Professions. Our goal is to inform all Bobcats about the campus and community resources and services available to them and make sure they know how to access them.

Who Does OHIO's CHW Initiative Support?

OHIO’s Campus Community Health Worker pilot initiative is focusing on three unique university populations: international students; commuter students; and medical students. The project is collecting data through a Well-Being & Health Connections Survey; responses will help to gauge overall well-being; learn what resources and services students need help finding; and connect those identified students with the Campus CHW service, if requested.

What Can OHIO's Campus CHW Help With?

OHIO's Campus Community Health Worker pilot initiative supports the OHIO community through three pillars — connect, inform, and encourage:

  • Connects students to resources and services
  • Informs the OHIO community through outreach and community education
  • Encourages student self-sufficiency through social support and advocacy
  • Questions?
