Campus Crime Statistics

The Clery Act is a federal law that requires colleges and universities to disclose information about campus crime by October 1 annually. Each year the Ohio University files a report of campus crime statistics with the United States Department of Education.  Crime statistics for the past three calendar years are maintained on the Clery website.

For each calendar year, the statistics reflect the number of reported incidents of certain crimes, as defined by the Clery Act, which occurred within Ohio University’s Clery Geography.  These crimes include: murder, manslaughter, sex offenses (including rape, fondling, incest and statutory rape), robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, arson, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking that occurred on University Clery geography. Where the crimes above are committed on the basis of bias against actual or perceived members of certain groups, the crimes may also be classified as hate crimes. Also included are arrests and disciplinary referrals for drug law violations, liquor violations, weapon violations.

The Clery statistics include crimes reported directly to the Ohio University Police Department, to local law enforcement agencies, and to “campus security authorities (CSAs).” CSAs are defined by the Clery Act as university officials who have significant responsibility for student and campus activities, including, but not limited to, student housing, student discipline, and athletic coaches. Professionally licensed mental health and religious counselors are exempt from reporting requirements for crimes disclosed to them in the course and scope of their role as a licensed mental health or religious counselor.

The campus criminal statistics are reported for each Ohio University regional and extension campus. Below are links to each campuses’ annual crime statistics:
