Our Mission

The purpose of ACOS-MSS, through local chapters, is to represent and educate the future osteopathic surgeon. This is achieved by stressing the understanding of osteopathic principles in relationship to disease in the practice of surgery and providing a forum for discussion amongst students and surgeons.

Services Provided   

The ACOS-MSS provides a means for medical student members to learn more about surgery through a variety of activities and to represent and educate future osteopathic surgeons through local chapters of ACOS-MSS.
   
ACOS emphasizes the understanding of osteopathic principles in relationship to disease in the practice of surgery, supports surgical education, allows for the practice of surgical skills, including gowning and gloving, scrubbing, sterile technique, suturing and tying techniques, operating room behavior, instrumentation, universal precautions, osteopathic manipulative management of the surgical patient, pre- and post-operative management of surgical patients, and surgical documentation, and finally, provides a forum for discussion amongst students and attending/residents in surgery. 

Tentative Schedule for 2024-2025

ACOS-MSS is planning to host a surgery panel with attendings and residents, a fundraiser with local food distributors, a suturing clinic in partnership with other clubs, an ultrasound week, and other collaborative events with HCOM Dublin clubs. Member dues and fundraiser money will be used to fund these events.
