Our Mission
The purpose of this organization is to provide a welcoming environment and support network for Latinx medical students. LMSA at OUHCOM is dedicated to educating students and faculty about health care issues and disparities prevalent in the Latinx communities. We strive to be dynamic and integral members of the greater Columbus area community, both educating and learning in a medical, and cultural capacity. This competency extends to teaching, learning, and practicing Spanish so that each member may be better equipped to serve and connect with the Latinx community.

Services Provided
The Latino Medical Student Association exists to unite and empower current and future physicians through service, mentorship, and education to advocate for the improved health of the Hispanic & Latina/o/x community. LMSA at OUHCOM works to serve the local Latinx community as well as provide education regarding cultural competency and the Spanish language to HCOM students.
Tentative Schedule for 2025-2026
We want to kick off the year by honoring, celebrating and sharing Hispanic Heritage Month. We will be having our second annual Dia De Los Muertos event to honor those who have passed and to embrace and share a common cultural. We will be holding our info event for Clínica Latina. In the fall we are planning to have a panel of Latin Physicians from the Columbus area to create connections and connect. In the Spring we plan to have our annual minority mixer with our sister organization SNMA. We also want to host a panel of Spanish speaking patients to share their experiences as patients to help us become better physicians.
