The Global Health Certificate Program is a 19-credit-hour program that offers a unique inter-professional opportunity for undergraduate students interested in gaining a global perspective on health care through coursework and a two-week capstone/field experience. Faculty from 15 disciplines and five colleges collaborated to create the Global Health Certificate.

Gerontology Certificate

Meet the needs of the aging population

This program is designed for students who want to gain knowledge and skills for a career that involves working with the elderly. Since the knowledge and research associated with aging overlaps a variety of disciplines, the coursework spans several Ohio University academic departments. Health care, social services, recreation, mental health, education, administration and business are examples of service areas that employ large numbers of persons working with the aging population.

Diabetes Certificate

Better understand diabetes

The Diabetes Certificate is a 17-credit-hour program that provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about diabetes from a multidisciplinary perspective. This program is designed to reach beyond the classroom through interactive learning to help students better understand diabetes, as it becomes increasingly prevalent both locally and nationally. A graduate-level program will be available in 2015.

Certificate in Bioinformatics

Focus on Biology and Computer Science

Bioinformatics, which combines biology with computer science, is a rapidly growing discipline that arose out of a need to rapidly expand and critique large volumes of biological data, especially in the area of genomics. Modern biological and biomedical research involves a significant informatics component. The certificate in Bioinformatics provides students with the necessary background, to allow them to pursue the study and analysis of large data sets.
