Ohio University Student Health Program

Heritage College students with Ohio University's Student Health Insurance Plan (United Healthcare) may be seen at University Medical Associates (UMA) (1) only on referral by an Ohio University Campus Care (OUCC) physician, OR (2) only if using the UMA Express Care service during hours that OUCC is closed. United Healthcare has informed UMA that they will not pay for health care services unless one of the above conditions are met. Therefore, Heritage College students with OU student insurance must first go to OUCC during their open hours. Parks Hall receptionists have been instructed NOT to give an appointment unless they are assured that Heritage College students have been to OUCC and have a referral in hand OR unless the student is making an Express Care appointment during the times OUCC is closed.

Students who are not covered by the OU Student Health Insurance plan may go to the UMA for care without referral from OUCC. Domestic students enrolled for five or more credit hours and international students taking one or more credit hours, will be automatically enrolled in and billed for a policy offered by Ohio University. Domestic students who already have comparable health coverage may waive the United Healthcare student insurance plan by logging online to My OHIO Student Center and completing the insurance waiver. To avoid paying for the policy offered by Ohio University, you must decline the coverage online by the posted deadline. Completion of a waiver during Fall Semester will automatically waive the student health insurance for all subsequent semesters within the same academic year. Students can choose to re-enroll in the University Health Insurance plan during open enrollment periods at the beginning of each semester. Open enrollment will begin (2) weeks prior to the start of each semester and continue through the posted enrollment/waiver deadline for each semester. *Please Note: Submission of an alternative insurance card to Campus Care or any other facility is not considered a valid waiver for the Student Health Insurance Policy.

Family members of students may be seen at UMA, as Ohio University Campus Care does not treat dependents unless the dependent is also an Ohio University student.
