REDCap training sessions are available to Ohio University (OU) faculty, staff, and students who wish to receive in-person training on the functionality of REDCap. We currently offer three levels of training:

INTRODUCTION:

10-15 minute presentation that can be given at a faculty meeting or other faculty/staff gathering by a REDCap representative.

BASIC

90-120 minute workshop that can be scheduled with a REDCap representative.

ADVANCED:

90-120 minute workshop that can be scheduled with a REDCap representative.

These levels of training are discussed in more detail below.

Introduction

This level of training is appropriate for individuals who are interested in receiving more information about REDCap and how it is used in research. The presentation will cover the history of REDCap at OU, a brief overview of REDCap's functionality, and the specific features that make REDCap a desirable alternative to other electronic data collection methods.

Basic

This level of training is appropriate for individuals who are using REDCap for the first time, or individuals who have very limited prior experience. This level of training will cover:

  • The REDCap system interface
  • Overview of REDCap project types
  • REDCap project creation
  • Creating data collection instruments using the Online Designer and Data Dictionary, including how to use:
    • Field types
    • Text validation
    • Calculated fields
    • Branching logic
    • Matrix fields
  • Entering data using REDCap
  • Data export

Advanced

This level of training is appropriate for individuals with prior REDCap experience (i.e., fluency in Online Designer/Data Dictionary, traditional project creation, and data entry) who wish to use surveys or collect longitudinal data in their projects. This level of training will cover:

  • Enabling data collection instruments as surveys
    • Survey settings
    • Automated invitations
    • Managing survey participants
  • Enabling longitudinal data collection
    • Defining events
    • Designating instruments for events
  • Calendar/Scheduling modules
  • Data Access Groups (DAGs) for multi-site projects
