Principal Investigator

Cory Baumann, assistant professor of aging systems physiology in biomedical sciences

Cory W. Baumann, Ph.D.

Dr. Baumann is an assistant Professor of Aging Systems Physiology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Ohio University and a Junior Scholar within the Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute (OMNI). He has formal training in skeletal muscle physiology & biology, kinesiology, and health promotion & wellness (PhD from Georgia State University & Post-Doctoral training at the University of Minnesota). As a basic scientist, his lab studies how the neuromuscular system of diseased and frail mice respond to various stressors (e.g., injury, exercise). Dr. Baumann’s lab primarily focuses on skeletal muscle function as an outcome measure of stress resistance, resilience, and adaptability. His research goals are to identify sites and mechanisms that increase the stress buffering capacity of the neuromuscular system, which ultimately can be targeted to improve function and health span in aging, frail and myopathic populations. Dr. Baumann is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and has published in journals such as Skeletal Muscle, Medicine in Science and Sport in Exercise, Aging, Journal of Clinical Investigations and Cell Reports.
